Local In Prestwich Winter Festival – Sunday 2nd December 2012

Prestwich based business group, Local In Prestwich (LIP) , have this year taken on the task of organising the Christmas Light Switch On. Never a group to do things by halves, LIP have turned the event into a Winter Festival which will provide the opportunity for socialising, shopping and entertainment. The event will run from 11am to 4.30pm on Sunday 2nd December.

Joining forces with the organisers of the Prestwich Food and Craft Festival the intention is to give the people of Prestwich the opportunity to “do Christmas” in Prestwich.

Aimed at encouraging shoppers to “go local” as much as possible this festive season, LIP’s Winter Festival will provide all the opportunity they need.

The Food and Craft Festival will have an even greater emphasis on local traders than the past events and this Festive special will include more craft stalls to allow for Christmas gift buying.

Between 1pm and 3pm Jodie Furlong from Prestwich based homewares and gift shop, Ellie Magpie, will be running drop in craft session for both adults and children. Ellie Magpie will also be providing a gift wrapping service on the day using her very own hand printed wrapping paper. Small gifts start at £1.95 and larger gifts from £2.95.

The group have also organised a Fancy Dress competition for children up to 12 years old. There will be two winners and the theme is Winter. LIP have organised for vintage clothing company owner, Samantha Ludlam of J’adore Vintage to judge the competition at 2.30pm on the day.

Shoppers are also asked to look out for Make A Wish Envelopes in their local shops. The group are hoping that children will make a wish this festive season, place it in an envelope and bring it to the Winter Festival to post it through the magic door.

The Food and Craft Festival will wind up around 3pm just in time for the entertainment to begin. LIP have organised a varied array of performers to entertain the crowds in the build up to the big switch on.

The entertainment programme will include Prestwich based West African Drum Circle, performers from Prestwich Footlights, local band The Rocket and dance troop Street Shakers. Footlights will also be giving a special performance of the classic “Twas The Night Before Christmas”.

The main event, the big switch on will take place at 4pm, with a special guest.
